Power Animals A–Z

Every animal and the energy it carries, gathered in one place. Search for the creature that has been finding you, or simply wander through.

Bear

Bear

Go inward and restore

Bear withdraws into the cave to rest, to dream, and to emerge renewed. When Bear comes to you, you may need solitude and deep rest more than you have been willing to admit — a season of turning inward to recover your strength. Bear carries quiet power and the wisdom of knowing when to retreat and when to stand, immovable and certain.

Butterfly

Butterfly

You are becoming new

No creature speaks of transformation like Butterfly, who dissolves entirely in the chrysalis before emerging as something wholly new. When Butterfly visits, you are in the midst of a change — leaving one version of your life behind to become who you are meant to be. Trust the process, even the part that feels like coming undone. You are not ending; you are emerging.

Cheetah

Cheetah

Don't burn out

Heart racing, a thrumming in your chest, you can feel the power of 75 mph speed. You are reminded of your "explosive" ability, which then desperately needs rest. Be careful you don't burn out.

Deer

Deer

Be gentle with yourself

When a deer steps softly to your door, she nearly always brings the same tender message: be gentle with yourself. Deer carries the energy of innocence, sensitivity, and unconditional kindness. If you have been harsh with yourself or pushing far too hard, Deer is asking you to soften — to move through your days with a lighter, kinder step, beginning with how you treat your own heart.
P.S. One of Christel's most favorite animals in Kenya.  After holding an hour-old orphaned dik-dik in Kenya, a forever bond of love and gentleness began.

Doggie

Doggie

You are loved unconditionally

Here to teach us unconditional love; no matter what you've done in the past, they love you. God gave us dogs to teach us to love ourselves and others, and how to forgive.

Eagle

Eagle

Rise above and see the whole picture; don't miss the tiny [mice] in the field.

Eagle flies higher than any other bird and can see from tremendous distances — taking in the whole picture, the entire landscape, at a single glance. When Eagle visits, you are being invited to rise above the details that have been consuming you and see your life as a whole, from a far greater height. It is a call to spiritual vision and courage — and a tender reminder that you are watched over from above, and never as alone as you feel.

Elephant

Elephant

It takes a village to nurture the tribe.

An elephant moves through the world with patience, deep memory, and a fierce devotion to family. When Elephant comes to you, it speaks of loyalty, of the strength found in your closest bonds, and of a long memory that carries both hard-won wisdom and old grief. Elephant energy invites you to honor where you came from, to protect the vulnerable in your care, and to trust the gentle, unhurried power of a steady and faithful heart.
One of Christel's favorite places to visit in Kenya is the Sheldrick Elephant Sanctuary. When she asked a caretaker why he would spend years, 24/7, with an orphaned elephant, he replied, "love."

Fox

Move softly and wisely

Fox moves through the world with cleverness, adaptability, and a gift for going unseen when it serves. When Fox appears, you are invited to be resourceful and quick-witted, to trust your instincts, and at times to step back and observe quietly rather than charging ahead. There is real wisdom in moving softly.

Giraffe

Giraffe

Look above and beyond the fray; don't get caught in the weeds of what doesn't matter.

With the longest neck and the broadest view, Giraffe sees what is coming long before it arrives — and she never gets stuck in the weeds. The weeds are the minutiae of a day: the small irritations and passing frustrations that snag at us and pull our gaze downward. Giraffe simply lifts her head above them. She teaches us to look beyond the fray, to keep our heads high above the noise, because from that height we can actually see what matters and what is merely passing. When Giraffe appears, trust your far-sight — and refuse to let the little things steal the larger view.

Hawk

A message is arriving

Hawk is the messenger. When Hawk circles into your awareness, pay close attention — a sign, an insight, or a piece of guidance is trying to reach you. Hawk sharpens your focus and asks you to notice the patterns and signals you have been moving past too quickly. Something important is being pointed out to you.

Hummingbird

Hummingbird

Taste the sweetness now

Tiny, tireless, and impossibly joyful, Hummingbird is the only bird who can fly backward — a living reminder that we may revisit the past for healing without staying there. When Hummingbird darts into your life, she brings a message of joy, lightness, and the sweetness that is available to you right now. Pause and taste the nectar; it has been there all along.

Lion

Lion

Stand in your own strength

Lion carries the energy of courage, dignity, and rightful authority. When Lion appears, you are being called to step fully into your own strength — not to roar for the sake of it, but to hold your ground with calm, regal confidence. Notice, too, how the lion rests deeply and without apology; true power knows when to be still. Lead your life as the sovereign of it, and let your quiet presence do much of the speaking.

Moose

Moose

You are stronger than you look

The moose is my own totem, and she carries a teaching I return to again and again. Look at her — enormous, top-heavy, balanced on impossibly spindly legs, as though she could never hold her own weight, let alone move with any speed. And yet the moose is astonishingly quick, sure-footed, and fierce when she needs to be. I know this first-hand: a moose once came right up to my own front door and lay down in the snow, utterly calm and at ease — just before one of the most challenging seasons of my life arrived. She had come, I believe, to tell me ahead of time that I was equal to it. When Moose comes to you, she is saying: you have the strength to endure what is coming. You are far stronger than you appear, even to yourself. The difficulty ahead will not topple you — you were built to carry it.

Owl

Owl

See what others miss

Owl sees in the dark. When Owl comes to you, you are being given the ability to perceive what others overlook — the truth beneath the surface, the thing left unsaid. Owl is the keeper of deep wisdom and quiet magic, and her visit often means it is time to trust your intuition over appearances.

Rabbit

Rabbit

Notice what fear is creating

Rabbit is quick, alert, and deeply intuitive — and Rabbit is also our teacher about fear. I call it ‘scared bunny syndrome’: when we are caught in fight-or-flight, we literally tremble like a frightened rabbit — frozen, shaking, certain that danger is everywhere. When Rabbit hops into your awareness, ask yourself honestly what you have been running from, and whether your worry is quietly summoning the very thing you dread. Rabbit’s gift is fresh beginnings and abundance — available the moment you stop letting fear choose your direction.

Wolf

Trust your own knowing

Wolf is the teacher and the pathfinder — loyal to the pack, yet utterly true to its own spirit. When Wolf appears, it may be guiding you toward your own deeper knowing, or reminding you of the balance between standing on your own and belonging to those you love. Trust your instincts; Wolf walks beside those who are ready to lead their own lives.
